Master SQL, Google BigQuery, the GA4 data export, and advanced integrations with this in-depth program featuring three courses designed to take you from fundamentals to advanced analytics.
For the first time ever, we’ve built a full, structured certificate program for Google BigQuery. The Mastering GA4 With Google BigQuery program is designed to guide you step-by-step through everything you need to know to become confident with BigQuery, from SQL basics to advanced automations and integrations.
Each course builds on the last, so you’re never jumping ahead or stuck guessing what to learn next. Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to deepen your analytics skills, this program is built to meet you where you are — and take you much further.
We created this to offer a clear path for marketers, analysts, and technically curious pros who want more control over their data (and real answers from it).
To give you the best value and results, these courses are only available in this program. They cannot be purchased separately. With this program, you have the value of three courses at the price of one.
This program will teach you all you need to know about SQL and Google BigQuery, and you’re going to use the popular Google Analytics 4 data export as the basis for your explorations. You’ll wrap up your learning with a comprehensive look at one of the most powerful data pipeline management tools out there: Google Dataform.
Exclusive to this program
In this first course, you will learn the basics of the SQL programming language, you’ll get familiar with the Google BigQuery user interface, and you’ll learn how to utilize the free GA4 export dataset provided to all who enroll in this program.
The SQL Basics course is designed to whet your appetite. You will learn about the transformational power of raw data access and the freedom that BigQuery SQL grants you.
We will show you how the Google Cloud Platform works, focusing on BigQuery studio and managing permissions.
Don’t worry! Cloud might seem overwhelming, but when you’re working with BigQuery, the majority of your work happens within BigQuery Studio.
Surprise, surprise, we will teach you all about Google BigQuery.
You’ll earn how to navigate the user interface and how to set up budgets and billing alerts (to avoid your credit card bill getting hammered with some unfortunate queries!).
We’ll also show you how to connect to the course dataset. As a student of this program, you will get access to a GA4 export dataset that’s collected data since August 2019! It’s one of the oldest and most comprehensive datasets in existence, and it’s yours to query!
SQL is the programming language you’ll use to query the GA4 data.
This course will teach you the basics of SQL syntax, and we’ll pick up where we left off in the next course.
Even though these are “basics”, you’ll learn functional SQL skills that will last you a lifetime.
Exclusive to this program
In this course, you will continue your journey with an extra large dose of SQL lessons.
Each topic adds something new to your analytics toolkit, and you’ll learn how to use SQL to make the most out of the Google Analytics 4 data export.
As you’ll learn, the data export is far from perfect in its raw form. You will need to manipulate, transform, and manage it with the SQL skills you’ll learn in this course.
One of the toughest things to “get right” with the GA4 dataset is how to sessionize the data.
The raw data export is very incomplete when it comes to widening data to the scope of a session. In this course, you will learn how to assign and analyze session-scoped traffic sources, landing and exit paths, and how to calculate session-scoped metrics such as session length and total engagement.
You will also learn how to use analytic functions efficiently.
With analytic functions, you can build path analyses that inspect, for example, what the most popular navigation and event activation paths were for your site visitors.
You can use this information to focus on the behavior flows that are most profitable to your organization.
Many would argue that marketing efforts only make sense when you can assign a dollar value to them.
One of the focus points of this course is on ecommerce data. Whether you manage an online store or you use ecommerce measurement for other key events (content engagement, for example!), knowing how to build those ecommerce reports and item funnels can be a game-changer in how you approach marketing data in Google BigQuery.
Exclusive to this program
In many ways, this is the culmination of all your learnings thus far.
In this broad, comprehensive course, you’ll learn how to integrate other data sources to Google BigQuery, for example Google Ads, Google Search Console, and even manual uploads (CSV files) and Google Sheets.
The goal is to build a marketing data warehouse that you can then plug into one of the most transformational tools out there: Google Dataform.
We’ll show you how to use Google Dataform, but you’ll also learn about other integrations that can supercharge your analytical approach.
You’ll learn how to bring in data from a multitude of data sources to complement the GA4 export data that you already have in Google BigQuery.
Many of the integrations are luckily native to the Google Cloud Platform, but we’ll also show you how to use third-party tools to integrate custom data flows to your Google BigQuery project.
We’ll show you how to build, use, and manage a Google Dataform repository.
Dataform is a comprehensive suite of tools to help you manage data transformations at scale. Think of it as a repository of knowledge and of processes that help you build and manage your marketing data flows.
We’ll show you how to use Dataform and how to tap into popular (and FREE) third-party enhancements like GA4Dataform and BigFunctions.
The outcome will be a flattened marketing performance table that you can then plug into your reporting and visualization tool.
We’ll also show you how to link your BigQuery tables to some of the most popular Business Intelligence (BI) tools out there, including Google Looker Studio, Tableau, and Microsoft Power BI.
You’ll learn how to automate data extraction to these tools, and how to build graphs and data controls that make data reporting not just useful but also fun.
Unlock advanced insights with Google BigQuery and the Google Analytics 4 data export.
You work in an organization where GA4 is the leading web and app analytics tool
You want to leverage GA4 data outside of the GA user interface, to join and enrich it with other marketing, CRM and contextual data
You want to learn SQL in a meaningful way in the context of relevant marketing use cases
You want to manage your data efficiently and systematically
You want to understand how services like Google Dataform can completely revolutionize how your organization approaches the Extract, Load, and Transform process
You want to learn how to visualize your BigQuery tables in a BI tool like Looker Studio, Tableau, or Power BI
You are not interested in the SQL programming language
You believe that the Google Analytics 4 user interface is enough for your data analysis needs
You do not want to or your organization prevents you from accessing the Google Cloud Platform
These courses are self-paced, and you can take them at your own leisure. The individual topics always contain text content to help flesh out the concepts. There are illustrations, links, and tips to help you understand more about the topic.
We’ll give you quick access to any code snippets, SQL concepts, and supplementary materials that make it easier to follow along.
Each course is peppered with small quizzes to test your progress. Some quizzes test your understanding of core concepts, others ask you to perform SQL queries against the course dataset to answer specific analytical questions.
Once you complete all course content, you will receive a certificate, which you can proudly share on social media and in your professional profiles.
As with all Simmer courses, you’ll receive lifetime access to the content and the Simmer Community upon enrollment.

This is very difficult to estimate, because it’s all self-paced. However, the total running time of all videos is well past the 10 hour mark. You’ll also need to factor in reading the text content and taking the quizzes.
We have designed the content of this program to be in one, comprehensive curriculum. However, we’ve split it into three separate courses to give the student progression milestones. We’ve designed the content to flow from one course to the next, so having access to only part of the program would not make sense.
Once you enroll, you will get your Simmer login credentials that will let you access all three courses of this program. Shortly after, you’ll receive an email with your onboarding package.
You’ll also receive an invite to the Simmer Community and lifetime access to everything listed above.
Just that. Unless you specifically ask us to, we will not remove your access to the course content or to the Simmer Community.
You will also stay on the course email list, which we use solely for distributing useful information about the course.
Nothing. Nada. Zilch. These courses were designed to teach you everything you need to know.
If you do want to get your feet wet, we recommend you take the Mode Analytics SQL Tutorial. It’s not BigQuery-specific, but it’s an excellent (and free!) resource for learning about SQL.
The more the better. This is not a Google Analytics 4 program. We will simply be using Google Analytics 4 as the dataset we’ll run most of our queries against.
While you can certainly learn BigQuery (and SQL) thoroughly without knowing anything about GA4, it might help to take some courses (see this or this) in case you want to understand the world of GA4 better.
We offer a full refund, no questions asked, if you request it within 30 days of your purchase and if you’ve got 100% completion of all course content. We really want you to give it your best shot – we are absolutely positive that you will find the courses useful and the learning curves manageable.
